Week 1: Joy Day 1
Mon, Dec 25
Invitation – Psalm 98:1-2
Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things! His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations.
Scripture Reading – Luke 2:1-7
In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
Pause and remind yourself that God is a Father who loves and instructs his children. Ask God what he might be teaching you through his Word. How might God be stirring your heart to respond to him today?
- Praise God for the birth of Jesus, the Son of God and the Savior of the world.
- Rejoice in God who is fulfilling his promise.
Confessional Prayer – HC 35
Father, how humble is Jesus! Thank you that he did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but became nothing for our sake. May he afresh be our treasure this Christmas. Make within our hearts and lives much space for the Lord Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Blessing – Luke 2:14
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!
