Week 3: Preparation Day 16
Mon, Dec 18
Invitation – Isaiah 40:3
A voice cries: “In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.”
Scripture Reading – Psalm 89:1-4, 34-37
I will sing of the steadfast love of the Lord, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.” You have said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant: ‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” I will not violate my covenant or alter the word that went forth from my lips. Once for all I have sworn by my holiness; I will not lie to David. His offspring shall endure forever, his throne as long as the sun before me. Like the moon it shall be established forever, a faithful witness in the skies.”
Humble yourself before God. Read again, out loud if possible. Which words or phrases are particularly striking? What do they reveal about God? About us? Respond to God accordingly, resting in Him.
- Thank God for his steadfast love.
- Be assured that God will be faithful to his covenant.
- Anticipate the coming and everlasting King.
Confessional Prayer – BGC 13
You are the God who sees, as Abraham proclaimed after you interceded for him and his sacrifice of Isaac. Trials and difficulties assail us in numerous ways, but you are our constant and steady rock. Remind us of your fatherly care. Daily recall to our hearts that we are your sheep for whom you care and provide. Amen.
Blessing – Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
