Week 2: Hope Day 12
Thur, Dec 14
Invitation – Isaiah 9:2
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
Scripture Reading – 2 Samuel 7:8-9, 12-16
Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, “Thus says the Lord of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.”
Thank and praise God for revealing himself to you. Read again, slowly this time. Ask the Holy Spirit to direct your prayers through the Word, leading you into a faithful and devoted response.
- Recall that God has established a Kingdom that is greater than the kingdoms of man.
- Look forward to the rightful King sitting on his throne.
Confessional Prayer – WLC 45
King Jesus, Son of David: We eagerly await the full realization of your good and gracious rule. Even now we ask that you rule in our hearts, in our church. Teach us to walk in your ways that we might display the goodness of your governance. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done. Amen.
Blessing – Lamentations 3:22-24
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.”
